Welcome to The Flying Bead, artisan handmade glass beads from Emma Mackintosh.
I work from my studio in the heart of the English Lake District creating handmade glass beads using the amazing inspirations a location like this provides. The Lakes are full of organic textures and tones, bright flowers and sweeping landscapes - and of course, lots of water!
I work mainly with borosilicate (boro) glass to create my beads. This exciting glass is also known as 'hard' glass and is known for its clarity and strength. Borosilicate glass provides a colour palette and style of working that I love. Colours tend to be
subtle/natural in tone and mysterious, shifting with the light. Often the colours change dramatically with the light, becoming very vivid in sunlight. These qualities make it
ideal for jewellery making.
My handmade glass beads are carefully cleaned and annealed in a
digitally-controlled kiln to ensure strength and durability.
My photos are taken in natural lighting. Pictures may have been enlarged to show detail so please check the size of the beads.
I ship worldwide. Delivery to North America usually takes 7-10 days, to Europe 4-6 days
